I just read the lyrics of the beautiful song Breath of Heaven written by Amy Grant. The writer wonders if she is strong enough, good enough, wise enough. She wonders if she has the guts to go it alone. And so she turns to God, her Higher Power to help her feel protected and less alone.
How many times have we feared being alone, in the dark, cold and tired, and wondered whether we are ever going to get out of this mess. At the same time we can always decide to have hope.
Hope is where our power lies. Hopes are what keeps us alive. Hopes that we will feel better. Hopes for carrying a lighter load. Hopes that someday, someone will find us, and help us carry that god-awful load.
I believe in miracles. I believe that it just takes a slight shift in perception to see that we are never really alone. Light is all around us. We see it more at Christmas. This is the season of hope, of dreams, of music.
I urge you to remember the dreams of Christmas this year. Know that you are strong enough, good enough, wise enough. If you have a favorite Christmas song, play it, if you have a voice, sing along. Remember what if feels like to dance. There’s magic in Christmas, if we can just get back to our innocence and childlike hearts.
In the words of the beautiful Amy Grant, ‘Breath of heaven, be with us now.’
