Living in the Now
Life is all around us in its fullness — scents, sensations, colors, shapes, forms, and space. And all of these things just begin to touch on only two of our five physical senses. Immersed in a world of such stimulation we also have the ability to imagine the future and revisit the past with the power of our minds. Having all of these capacities is a wonderful thing though it may mean that we become dulled to the infinite gifts that surround us. We may need to choose to train our conscious minds, laser focusing our attention into the awareness of ‘present moment’. This is where our power lies. It is such a gift to pay attention, to be where we are, to feel the beauty around us, to know and to feel the rise and falling of our breath.
We are surrounded by gifts of beauty, life, and wonder. But we often miss it, bound up with worry, zooming our minds into the future, endlessly replaying the past. In any given moment, we can shift our attention to the now. Try taking a single moment. Go outside, sitt on the ground, and be willing to focus on one of the physical senses, perhaps closing your eyes and feeling the sensation of touch, the wind blowing gently on your face, the warmth of sunlight, the thin, sharp pointedness in the blades of grass nearby. In a single moment, we can recognize and become aware again of tiniest portion of the wonder which surrounds us, the variety and complexity, the potential in which we live. These moments can reconnect us to our power and our passion, placing us in the now and reminding us of our power and our passion.
